Our most widely sized XJD girls bike — thirteen combinations of colour and wheel, from a 12 inch for a two year old to a 20 inch for twelve.

On the driveway

The size chart is generous with detail: 12 inch for 33 to 41 inches tall, 14 inch for 35 to 47, 16 inch for 41 to 53, 20 inch for 50 to 61. Dual brakes — a front hand caliper and a rear coaster — and a closed chain guard. Short-reach levers and a low stand-over height make it friendly to a child who has only ever ridden a balance bike.

Out of the carton

Eighty-five percent assembled; the front tyre, seat and training wheels need fitting. Protective bar pads, a bell and a basket for a doll are included. An adult should do the final check of bolts and brakes before the first ride.
