The smallest head we fit is about 17 inches round, and this XJD helmet starts there — the lid we hand over with a first XJD balance bike for a baby turning one.

On the driveway

Three shell sizes, XX-Small to Small, cover a child from twelve months to roughly eight years, so the helmet tracks the bike rather than the birthday. Fourteen vents with bug mesh in the front ones keep a hot head from becoming the reason a ride ends early, and the rear dial turns right to snug, left to loosen, one-handed while a toddler wriggles.

Out of the carton

Nothing to build: the foam liner is already in, and it lifts out to wash after a muddy week. The ABS outer skin is injection moulded over EPS, which is the pairing we would want on any kids bike helmet. Twenty-four colourways means the arguments are about the pattern, not about wearing it.

Looks adorable. I bought for my 7 months the XS and if fits well (She is on the 90% percentile though, but still...) I guess it's pretty strong (Hope I don't have to put it to test) The adjustability is weird. The straps are on a weird place, but maybe it's because she is still a baby...

Next to the XJD balance bike
